Review on Online Educational Games

Throughout my years as a student, each year was different, but technology then wasn’t how it is now. We didn’t have the opportunity to use online games. the computer was mainly used for learning how to type and know your way around the it. because technology is more advanced than it was back then, educators are finding it more useful and are seeing encouraging results.

“Video games in the classroom provide teachers, administrators and parents with a plethora of data to give assessments on students’ performances that is invaluable,” (Bidwell, 2013). I can agree on behalf of a parent, but not as a teacher just yet. I’ve downloaded an app that records my sons scores as he progresses throughout the games he played and learned from.

Now that he is attending school, he has used some of what he learned and applied it to is school and homework. As a mother I’ve been using online educational games at home to help boost my children’s reading and math comprehension.  When my time as an educator comes, I’d like to apply some of the online educational games to my students. I’ve experienced working with students who work well with online games. It helps them learn more and have the motivation to continue learning.

Many of the online games help those who are struggling in math, reading, and students who are English language learners. I think that they benefit a lot with the games and it helps with their academics. Not to mention the reward system after every game or test they take online. Students do not realize this at such a young age, but as they progress throughout the grades, the games will be much different from how they started. Sometimes when working with online games, you have to be firm on what needs to be done, because some students have the tendency to wander. With social media and other entertainment sites or games it is hard to keep them focused on one thing.
